2016 Final Conference Rankings

22 Feb

The bowl season either wrecked havoc on the standings, or it settled the conferences in their appropriate ranking.  I suppose it depends on how your conference did in the rankings, when it comes to how you look at these final results.

Three conferences fell in the rankings – none more dramatic than the Big 10, which suffered through a terrible bowl season losing seven games.  The American and Mid-American Conferences also suffered, as did the SEC.  The SEC’s climb in the ranking was due to the decline of the Big 10 over that of the SEC’s on-field performance.

The Big 12 was able to climb into the top five based on their impressive bowl performance and the failure of the American Conference.

The big news in the ACC dominated the bowl season which led to a relatively huge margin of victory in the conference standings.  They finished with a victory margin over three tenths higher, which is a huge margin in these rankings that are all based on on-field performance.

How did your conference do?

2016 Conference Rankings Week 13

1 Dec

Is the SEC about to be dethroned from it’s perch atop the college football world?  They went up against the ACC this week and if it hadn’t been for Kentucky, they would have been swept.  Those wins by the ACC propelled them past the Big 10 and the SEC into first place.  Those losses by the SEC dropped them all the way down to third place. Bowl season will determine the top conference now, but it looks like this may be the year the SEC loses its crown.

2016 Week Two Conference

16 Sep

This week some things shook out.  The two most notable things is the SEC isn’t as down as feared and the Big 12 is down way more than anyone thought.  Also, notice that the American, formerly Big East, Conference is more than holding its own.  Suddenly, the Power 5 doesn’t appear to be all that powerful.

2016 Week One Conference Rankings

10 Sep

After what has been called the best opening week lineup of games in college football history, because of all the big matchups, how did your conference fair once the dust settled?  Some talking heads questioned the reputation of the SEC, which has been well earned according to these non-biased rankings.  (Personally, I’m not a fan of the SEC, but since these rankings are based on on-field results, I can’t fudge the numbers either way.)  So where did your conference rank?

Week Two Conference Rankings

13 Sep

As usual, week two brought about a shake-up in the standings.  This shake-up is like a sifting process, where things settle into what seems to be their proper place.  Last week their was a mixing of Power 5 conferences and the rest of the FBS conferences.  However, the games played this week shook-up those rankings and the Power 5 conferences rose as the remaining conferences fell into the expected upper and lower tiers.

Week One Conference Rankings

12 Sep

Another year and it’s about time.  The Week One rankings are going to look a little funny with several of the Power 5 conference schools losing to the other conference teams, meaning some of the Power 5 conferences look like anything but powerful.  Still, it’s only the first week and as more games are played we should see that change.  However, who really knows, since the fun of these rankings is that they are completely objective.  Meaning it’s the results on the field that counts and not what my opinion may be.

Week One

  1. SEC = 1.846
  2. Big 12 = 1.000
  3. C-USA = .833

Conference Rankings Week Six 2014

6 Oct

Since very few non-conference games were played this last week, there wasn’t any movement in the rankings besides a few points here and there.  The Mountain West did pick up quite a few points; however, since they were the one conference that played several out of conference games and won four out of five.

I decided to post this week’s rankings and then place the previous week’s rankings directly below for comparison purposes, as I used to do.  Enjoy!
