Week Two Conference Rankings

13 Sep

As usual, week two brought about a shake-up in the standings.  This shake-up is like a sifting process, where things settle into what seems to be their proper place.  Last week their was a mixing of Power 5 conferences and the rest of the FBS conferences.  However, the games played this week shook-up those rankings and the Power 5 conferences rose as the remaining conferences fell into the expected upper and lower tiers.

Conference Rankings Week Six 2014

6 Oct

Since very few non-conference games were played this last week, there wasn’t any movement in the rankings besides a few points here and there.  The Mountain West did pick up quite a few points; however, since they were the one conference that played several out of conference games and won four out of five.

I decided to post this week’s rankings and then place the previous week’s rankings directly below for comparison purposes, as I used to do.  Enjoy!

Conference Rankings Week Three 2014

20 Sep

Week three saw two big drops – one from a Big 5 conference and the other among the remaining 5.  The Big 10 had a very poor showing and basically traded places with the Big 12.  The Sun Belt managed to lose all their games and drop form 6th place to last in the conference standings.  The SEC continues to dominate, and even though many want to claim the SEC is overrated, on-filed results don’t lie.  The SEC continues to dominate the other Power 5 conferences to the point that their point total has risen every week.

Week 3

1.  SEC = 1.724

2.  Pac 12 = 1.413

3.  ACC = 1.156

4.  Big 12 = .920

5.  Big 10 = .694

6.  Mt. West = .206

7.  C-USA = .147

8.  American = -.320

9.  MAC = -.342

10. Sun Belt = -.520

2012 Conference Rankings Week 10

5 Nov

The SEC continues to close in on the Big 12 for the number one ranking.  They have done so by winning against non-BCS teams, but win they do.  This past week they had two wins much closer than expected, however, the closeness of a win doesn’t factor into how these rankings are complied.  An overtime win, or loss, doesn’t factor into these rankings either.  All we count here is wins and losses.  Now onto the rankings.

1.  Big 12          1.448

2.  SEC             1.325

5.  Big East     0.628

7.  MAC           0.384

8.  WAC           0.324

CFB Conference Rankings Week 6 of 2012

8 Oct

We only had one position change this week as few out of conference games were played.  The ACC has resumed its position in last of the six BCS conferences.  None of the top four conferences played out of conference games this week.  To me, the surprising conference is the Sun Belt.  After six weeks, not only are they not at the bottom where they had always been, but their score is in the positive end of the spectrum.  That’s quite an accomplishment.

On the other end of that surprise is the Mountain West Conference which has traditionally been the leading non-BCS conference.  They are ranked tenth and their score is in the negative side of the spectrum.

So what do we know after six weeks?  The Big 12 is still the best conference and Conference USA is the worst.  The ACC is still the worst BCS conference and not the Big East, as just about everyone with an opinion would claim.

Week Six Conference Rankings

1.  Big 12          1.535

2.  SEC             1.216

3.  Big 10         1.063

4.  Pac 12         1.000

5.  Big East     0.800

6.  ACC            0.675

7.  WAC           0.470

8.  MAC           0.272

9.  Sun Belt     0.142

10. MWC          -.175

11. C-USA         -.630
